REQURIEMENTS AND ASSESSMENT INFORMATION
FOR PROSPECTIVE ATTENDEES ON PUBLIC COURSES (2010)
IWCF & WellCAP
COURSES
IWCF or
IADC WellCAP Well Control
Prerequisites
Prospective candidates should possess basic maths skills, knowledge of
“rig maths” and experience relating to the certification needs
(e.g. Surface vs. Subsea, Driller vs. Supervisor levels)
Assessment
Courses include mock tests in preparation for formal IWCF / IADC WellCAP
written examinations. Simulator familiarisation is provided prior to simulator
testing.
Introduction to Well Control
Prerequisites
Prospective candidates should possess basic maths skills, knowledge of
“rig maths”. Experience at Derrickman level or equivalent
is recommended.
Assessment
This course does not include formal assessment or examination. Informal
(‘formative’) assessment may be given by the instructor in
order to assess the delegates’ comprehension and progress during
the course.
IWCF Well Intervention Pressure
Control
Prerequisites
Prospective candidates should possess basic maths skills, knowledge of
“rig maths” and experience relating to the certification needs
(e.g. Level 1 vs. Level 2 and relevant Well Services options (i.e. Coiled
Tubing, Wireline, Hydraulic Workover)). Please note: Prospective Refresher
course candidates should have previously obtained an IWCF or IADC WellCAP
certificate at the level they are attending.
Assessment
Courses include mock tests in preparation for formal IWCF written examinations.
IWCF examination comprises two compulsory papers (Completions Equipment
and Principles & Procedures. In addition, candidates must select for
examination at least one of three Well Services options (Coiled Tubing,
Wireline and Hydraulic Workover) prior to attending the course.
PUBLIC
AWARENESS COURSES
1-Day Introduction to Oil Industry
1-Day Basic Drilling Awareness
2-day Introduction to Well Services
4-Day Basic Drilling Technology & Equipment
Prerequisites
None (delegates are not required to possess prior knowledge or experience
of the oil and gas industry if attending the above training courses).
Assessment
The above ‘awareness’ courses do not include formal assessment
or examination. Informal (‘formative’) assessment may be given
by the instructor in order to assess the delegates’ comprehension
and progress during the course.
LANGUAGE PREREQUISITES
Please be aware that ADS public courses are conducted in English. Prospective
attendees for whom English is a second or foreign language should have
a minimum of Low Intermediate level (equivalent to IELTS 4.0). IWCF Well
Control examinations are available in other languages. Candidates requesting
to take the IWCF exam in a language other than English should advise ADS
prior to attending the course.
