COURSE
OVERVIEW
Introduction
to the basic and essential calculations for drilling and pressure
control operations. The course is conducted on a distance learning
basis with candidates studying at their own pace in their own
environment. Each module has associated assessment exercises which
are returned to ADS for correction, assessment and guidance by
professional training staff.

CONTENT
•
Oilfield and SI systems of units
• Mathematics, including fractions, algebra and geometry
• Calculations for capacities/volumes/pump strokes for drill
strings and annulus circulations
• Hydrostatics of fluid columns
• Formation strength, leak-off test and kick tolerance calculations
• Basics of pressure control circulation calculations for
the Driller’s and Wait & Weight methods, with kick sheets
In addition, those who select additional correspondence options
should have a basic competence in:
• Derrick loading and drilling line calculations
• Drilling fluid component quantities
• Basic drilling/mud hydraulics
• Drill collar weight and drill string stretch calculations
• Basic calculations for deviated wells
